Dublanko named Bearcats captain

Former Aberdeen Bobcats linebacker Joel Dublanko was named co-captain of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football team on Aug. 27.

The middle linebacker returns as a graduate student after starting nine of the Bearcats’ 10 games last season and finishing with 51 total tackles, third best on the team.

The Bearcats are ranked eighth and 10th in the preseason AP Top 25 poll and Coaches poll, respectively.

Three locals named to All-State Football Team for 2020 season

The Washington State Football Coaches Association announced its All-State Football Team for the 2020-21 season, with three Grays Harbor County athletes making the list.

Montesano’s Trace Ridgway was named to the all-state squad at the “Athlete” position after winning the 1A Evergreen League MVP award for his play at quarterback and linebacker.

Ridgway was joined on the team by teammate Kenny Koonrad, the league’s Defensive MVP who was named all-state as a defensive linemen.

Hoquiam’s Dane McMillan, the league’s Offensive MVP, was honored by the WSFCA as an all-state defensive back.
