Six local teams to vie for sports in state football

Aberdeen, Montesano, Hoquiam, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, Raymond and South Bend will face opponents in district play.

At least six Twin Harbors football teams will bid for state berths in district crossover football games on Friday.

Aberdeen, Montesano, Hoquiam, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, Raymond and South Bend will face opponents from other Southwest Washington leagues in district play.

Taholah could join the list if the Chitwhins survive a district-qualifying game against Crescent at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Forks.

All crossover games are loser-out affairs, with the winners advancing to the state playoffs next week.

After earning its first postseason berth since 2013, Aberdeen has the daunting task of visiting second-ranked Hockinson in the District 2A playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday.

Montesano and Hoquiam will both have home games in the district 1A playoffs on Friday. Evergreen 1A League champion Montesano will take on Stevenson, the Trico League’s No. 3 entry, in a battle of Bulldogs. The Grizzlies, as the Evergreen League’s runner-up, hosts Trico runner-up Castle Rock. Both games are also slated for 7 p.m.

Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division champion Pe Ell-Willapa Valley entertains Toutle Lake at Menlo’s Crogstad Field in the District 2B playoffs.

Raymond and South Bend both face tough challenges on the road against state-ranked opponents in the 2B crossovers. The Gulls travel to Adna in a rematch of a wild district contest won by Raymond last year. South Bend challenges reigning state champion Napavine.

The district 2B contests are also scheduled for 7 p.m.
