RIDGEFIELD — Without their starting goalkeeper, Aberdeen rotated position and JV players in goal during a 9-0 loss to Ridgefield in the District IV 2A tournament opener on Saturday night.

The Spudders took a 6-0 lead at halftime. Junior varsity call-up Adrianna Vazquez started in goal for AHS, with Dani Buckman and Aleeta Pratt coming in later in the match.

AHS starting goalkeeper Reagan Glanz was unavailable due to a prior committment.

“She stepped up and I’m proud of her,” AHS head coach Ryan Housden said of Vazquez. “All three girls had good saves. We played well in the field, but we were outmatched. I’m happy with the way the girls played. They never gave up.”

On Tuesday, Aberdeen (5-11) will host R.A. Long in a district loser-out game at 7 p.m. at Stewart Field.

Despite holding Highline to one goal in the first half, Grays Harbor College couldn’t hold off the Thunderbirds offense in the second half as Highline rolled to a victory in an NWAC Western Division match at Stewart Field on Saturday.

Highline’s Madasin Jennings came up with four straight goals early in the second half, 49th, 50th, 55th and 58th minutes, to begin the flood of offense for the Thunderbirds.

Emily Bjornsgard made six saves for GHC, while Cecilia Flores and Rachel Thompson each added five saves in goal for the Chokers.

The loss ends the season for GHC with a 1-16-1 record.
