LACEY — Miguel Torres scored both goals as Aberdeen blanked Class 3A Timberline in a non-league contest Saturday at South Sound Stadium.

Despite playing without starters Dylan Hughes and Luis Martinez due to illness and injury, the Bobcats (8-2) put together one of their best performances.

Torres converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute after Cesar Corona was taken down in the box.

Aberdeen added an insurance goal on what was literally the opening possession of the second half. On the sixth pass of the possession, Corona fed Torres, who beat the goalkeeper on a one-on-one situation.

Bobcat goalkeeper Alexis Garcia recorded his sixth shutout of the season. Defenders Trevor Dawkins and Robby Lewis and midfielders Tony Oropeza, Alejandro Felipe and Luis Garcia were credited with fine performances.

“It was a good test for us against a physical, fast team,” AHS coach Larry Fleming summarized. “We more than held our own, playing outstanding defense and communicating well in all areas.”

Evan Bates hit a 2-run home run in the second and Noah Quinn came up with a 2-run double. Quinn finished the game with four hits.

“Overall, it was another solid day at the plate, but there were some baserunning miscues to clean up,” Montesano head coach Mike Osgood said. “I was pleased with the focus and energy.”

MONTESANO — Samantha Stanfield pitched a two-hitter and helped her own cause with a home run as Montesano beat White River in a non-league game Saturday at Rottle Field.

The Bulldogs (9-1) mustered only four hits of their own. All, however, were instrumental in the scoring.

Three consecutive doubles, by Lindsay Pace, Peyton Poler and Allyssa Gustafson, produced a three-run third inning that erased a 1-0 deficit.

Stanfield slugged a two-run homer in the fourth.

“We didn’t have as many hits, but we had some big hits and we had some timely hits,” Monte coach Pat Pace said. “Their pitcher did a good job of keeping us off-balance and we have to be more patient at the plate.”

Stanfield struck out 11 and didn’t allow a walk in picking up the victory.

Montesano also won the JV game, 15-0.

The Bulldogs return to Evergreen 1A League play Thursday with a doubleheader at Tenino.
