PREP SOFTBALL
Montesano 1, Kelso 0
Not even a full season into her prep career and Montesano freshman Violet Prince continues to prove she is the real deal.
Prince allowed just three hits and struck out 12 to lead the Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory over 3A-class Kelso on Tuesday in Montesano.
The Bulldogs (12-4 overall) scored a run in the bottom of the first when Lex Stanfield – on board via a one-out error – came in to score on a two-out single by Addi Kersker.
That was enough for Prince, who threw two straight strikeouts to get out of a two-on, one-out jam in the second and worked around a Karmynn Petrisor leadoff double in the third.
The Bulldogs defense pitched in with a key 4-6-3 double play started by second baseman Jaelyn Butterfield and turned by Kersker at short to end a Hilanders (7-5) two-on, one-out rally in the sixth.
Prince tossed a 1-2-3 seventh to earn the complete-game shutout victory.
“The team played good defense for seven innings while Violet Prince pitched a great game,” said Montesano head coach Pat Pace, whose team has won 12 of its last 13 games.
Paityn Mackin took the hard-luck loss for Kelso, allowing one unearned run on just two hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Montesano faces Hoquiam at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Hoquiam.

Raymond-South Bend 12, Forks 3
Raymond-South Bend’s hit parade continued with a 12-3 win over Forks in the nightcap on Tuesday.
Five of the Ravens’ 14 hits in the game went for extra bases, including home runs by pitcher Macey Enlow and star center fielder Emma Glazier.

Though they brought their big bats to the ball field on Tuesday, RSB head coach Dakota Parks said it was the little things that made the difference.
“Our pitchers did a really good job, they were lights out. … Ava Pine threw out maybe four or five girls. We capitalized on all the mistakes (Forks) was making,” she said. “The little things matter and (Forks) wasn’t doing those little things. (Ravens players) even came up to me and said, ‘Hey look, we’re doing all those little things and they are not,’ and I said, ‘Exactly.’”
RSB sits in a tie with PWV for first place in the 2B Pacific League and will face Toledo at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Toledo High School.
