PREP SOFTBALL
Aberdeen 9, Kentwood 0
Aberdeen senior pitcher Lilly Camp had one of the finest performances of her prep career with a 20 strikeout, no-hitter in a 9-0 win over 4A-class Kentwood on Tuesday at Kent-Meridian High School.
The hard-throwing Bobcats right-hander struck out every Conquerors batter at least once and recorded 20 strikeouts of the 21 outs in the game.
The only putout required by the Aberdeen defense in the game was when catcher Alyssa Yakovich threw out Kendyl Toeaina on an attempted steal of second to end the second inning.
The only blemishes in Camp’s near-perfect game was a pair of walks, one to Toeaina on a full-count in the second and another in a seven-pitch at-bat to Joe Francis-Rodrigues with two outs in the seventh.
Camp threw 92 pitches – 69 for strikes – and had a stretch where she retired 15 batters in a row and had an immaculate inning in the third, striking out the side on nine pitches.
Camp’s teammates provided more than enough early offense as the Cats scored five runs in the first inning.
After third baseman Rylee Hendrickson reached on an error to leadoff the game followed by a walk to shortstop Zoe Vessey, catcher Alyssa Yakovich lined a 3-2 pitch over the left-field fence for a three-run home run.
Later in the first, third baseman Britten Neal drove in first baseman Maysinn Jones with a single followed by a a bases-loaded walk to left fielder Audree Gaddis to put Aberdeen up 5-0.
Triples by Vessey in the third and second baseman Abby Mainio in the fourth drove in runs and Aberdeen went up 8-0 on a sacrifice fly by Jones to score Mady Luce in the fifth.
Yakovich drove in her fourth run of the game with a bases-loaded walk to make it a 9-0 game in the top of the sixth.
Aberdeen faces Hoquiam in the Bobcats’ home-opener at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Bishop Athletic Complex in Aberdeen.

Ilwaco 14, Ocosta 4
A young Ocosta team lost its season-opener 14-4 to Ilwaco on Tuesday in Westport.
The Wildcats (0-1) trailed 5-0 after one half-inning but rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Jolissa Schlegel.
But Ilwaco scored three in the second and led 9-4 when the Fishermen scored five runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Schlegel’s double was the lone hit in the game for an Ocosta offense that struck out 13 times in the game.
Starting pitcher Joanah Rosander took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing 14 runs – five earned – on nine hits with eight strikeouts and eight walks in seven innings pitched.
Ocosta’s defense committed 10 errors in the game, leading to nine unearned runs for Ilwaco.
New Ocosta head coach Makenzie Sylvester said despite the loss, there were positives for her young team that featured several eighth-graders playing in their first varsity game.
“Great energy from players at all times. Couldn’t even tell that we were losing most of the time,” she said. “Got out the first game jitters for all of our newbies and going to iron out mistakes.”
Ocosta plays at Mossyrock at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, weather permitting.
