Aberdeen 9, Centralia 8

Aberdeen avoided the upset by salvaging a 9-8 win over Centralia on Monday at the Bishop Athletic Complex in Aberdeen.

The Bobcats (16-2 overall, 11-2 2A Evergreen) appeared to be well on their way to another 2A Evergreen Conference victory with a 6-3 lead through three innings and right-handed ace Lilly Camp pitching in the circle.

But the game felt anything but comfortable for the Bobcats as the Tigers (6-10, 4-9) scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5.

Aberdeen picked up an insurance run when Camp singled with two outs and courtesy-runner Abby Mainio came in to score on a double off the bat of first baseman Maysinn Jones in the bottom of the sixth.

But the three-run lead wouldn’t survive as Camp walked three Tigers while the Bobcats defense committed three errors to allow Centralia to tie the game at 8-all in the top of the seventh.

Aberdeen avoided the upset when center fielder Riley Hendrickson led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Zoe Vessey, and scored when left fielder Audree Gaddis singled to center field to end the game.

Camp earned the win despite allowing a season-high 10 walks in the game. The Cats’ ace allowed eight runs – one earned – on four hits and struck out 15. Camp threw 172 pitches in the game, 102 for strikes.

Aberdeen right fielder Scotlyn Lecomte went 4 for 4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI to lead the Bobcats.

Gaddis had three hits and drove in two runs while Britten Neal, Camp, Ally Adams and Vessey had two hits apiece for an Aberdeen offense that outhit Centralia 18-4.

Six Aberdeen errors led to seven unearned runs for the Tigers.

Aberdeen hosts Shelton on Senior Night at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
