GIRLS PREP SWIMMING

Aberdeen 92, Tumwater 85

A matchup of last season’s top two district teams finished much the same way the 2022 district championships did, with Aberdeen on top.

Defending district-champion Aberdeen defeated Tumwater 92-85 on Wednesday at the Grays Harbor YMCA.

Bobcats junior Mija Hood led the way for the Bobcats with wins in the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke. Hood also swam the first leg of the Bobcats’ victorious 200 freestyle relay team, combining with Harnoor Jandu, Ava Benn and Keara Burns to finish with a time of 1:59.00.

Aberdeen’s Saylor Heikkila also provided points with a victory in the 1-meter dive competition.

“Great swims tonight,” said Aberdeen head coach Tiffany Montoure, noting Hood’s swims came in consecutive events. “I am proud of all the girls. The relays did well and everyone contributed to the win.”

Aberdeen hosts Black Hills for Senior Night at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

PREP GIRLS SOCCER

Adna 2, Ocosta 0

Two costly mistakes proved to be the difference in Ocosta’s 2-0 loss to Adna on Wednesday in Westport.

Ocosta (7-6 overall, 3-4 2B Central-Pacific) and Adna (5-4-3, 5-0-1) played a close, defensive struggle where two Wildcats mistakes led to two goals for the Pirates.

In the 21st minute, Adna took a 1-0 lead when a Wildcat clearance was muffed and spun back over the head of Ocosta goal keeper Amelia Saunders, who had come off her line to retrieve what was presumed to be an Ocosta goal kick. The ball went over the Wildcats goal line for an own goal.

In the 36th minute, a Wildcats penalty led to a Pirates penalty kick, which was converted for a 2-0 lead.

Saunders made 15 saves in the game for Ocosta.

Kylee Denny, Gabby Ness, Joanah Rosander, Scarlett Nelson and Luz Morales-Oropeza were cited by Ocosta head coach Mike King for their performances in the match.

Ocosta sits in fifth place, 1.5 games behind Onalaska in the 2B Central-Pacific League standings.

The Wildcats face Toutle Lake at 6 p.m. on Monday at Toutle Lake High School.
