Elma 62, Tenino 0

The Elma Eagles took out any frustrations they had over last week’s gut-wrenching loss to Hoquiam on the winless Tenino Beavers in a 62-0 rout on Friday in Tenino.

Elma (6-1, 1-1 Evergreen 1A) rushed for nearly 400 yards in the game and scored early and often, holding a 49-0 advantage at halftime.

Eagles running back Taitum Brumfield led a punishing ground attack that racked up 399 yards and accounted for nine touchdowns against a helpless Beavers defense. Brumfield rushed seven times for 98 yards and three touchdowns, including a 54-yard scamper that gave the Eagles a 35-0 lead with 9:12 remaining in the first half.

Brody Rustemeyer carried the ball 11 times for 81 yards and two TDs and Elma’s Brady Shriver, Carter Jacobson, Mikia Diacon and Rodrigo Luna also tallied touchdown runs for the Eagles.

Elma recorded 23 first downs to Tenino’s five and the Eagles defense held Tenino to just 68 yards of total offense. Tenino quarterback Karl Hisaw was just 2-for-11 for 13 yards and was sacked three times by Elma’s stingy defense.

After starting off the season with three hard-fought losses, the Raymond Seagulls won their fourth consecutive game on Friday, caging the Ocosta Wildcats, 41-14, at Raymond High School.

Raymond (4-3, 4-1 Coastal 2B) racked up another big offensive night with 445 total yards on offense, all of them via the Seagulls’ punishing ground attack.

Raymond’s backfield version of “lightning and thunder” was too much for the Ocosta defense to handle.

Workhorse running back Patrick Edwards provided the “thunder,” carrying the ball 34 times for 249 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Speedy rusher McCartney Maden ran for 155 yards and four touchdowns on just 13 carries as the “lightning” portion of Raymond’s backfield combo. He scored on runs of 36, 22, 43 and 20 yards to help Raymond leap out to a 28-0 lead at the half and a 41-0 lead by the end of the third quarter.

“Edwards is a really hard, downhill runner and McCartney has speed on the outside,” Raymond head coach Luke Abbott said of his dynamic backfield. “(Opposing defenses) have to pick their battles.”

Ocosta (4-2, 2-2) scored twice in the final quarter, both on TD passes from quarterback Cole Hatton. The junior hit Paul Bjornsgard for a 50-yard touchdown at the 9:58 mark followed by a 14-yard scoring toss to Brandon Thomas with 2:27 left in the game.

Hatton finished with 186 yards on a 12-for-21 passing night.

After starting off the season 4-0, the Wildcats have dropped two straight league games.

“(We) came out slow and got pushed around on both sides of the line,” Ocosta head coach Chris Raffelson said. “We will take this next week and refocus and get back to the fundamentals that gave us success early in the year.”

With its four-game winning streak, Raymond sits a half-game behind Pe Ell-Willapa Valley and Ilwaco in the loss column and is in contention for a 2B Coastal playoff spot.

“We’re in a groove,” Abbott said of his team’s play over the winning streak. “We are rolling along and the kids have a lot of confidence. … I’m really proud of the way the kids played tonight.”

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 46, North Beach 24

The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley Titans are now tied atop the 2B Coastal league standings after a 46-24 drubbing of the North Beach Hyaks on Friday at Willapa Valley High School.

PWV (6-2, 4-0), which played without six starters due to injuries, scored early and often, jumping out to a 40-0 halftime lead on the backs of stellar first halves from quarterback Logan Walker and running back Max Smith.

Walker had two touchdown runs in the first quarter sandwiched around his 63-yard scoring pass to Wyatt Bush.

Smith then made his mark in the second frame, scoring early in the quarter on a 57-yard punt return followed by a 1-yard plunge approximately two minutes later.

PWV’s Carson Cox added a 2-yard TD run at the 6:52 mark to give the Titans the large halftime lead.

After the break, Wyatt Marrs scored on a 4-yard run to give PWV a 46-0 lead.

North Beach (0-6, 0-4) scored all its points after three-minute mark of the third quarter, with Garrett Armbuster (2-yard run), Patrick Heyd (28-yard run) scoring rushing touchdowns. Armbuster caught a 27-yard TD pass from quarterback Kyle Fry with 11 seconds left in the game to complete the scoring.

Titans head coach Josh Fluke was satisfied his banged-up team was able to put another notch in the win column.

“We’ve had a black cloud over us with injuries. For them to step up and overcome adversity is something else,” he said.

The list of key players PWV is missing due to injury seems to keep growing. The Titans have been without senior quarterback Matt Pearson since game one and were without the services of running backs Peter Hamilton and Kollin Jurek on Friday.

Fluke was quick to credit his players up front for much of the team’s offensive success.

“Props to my O-line,” he said of Adam Smaciarz, Kayden Miller, Kiah Carter, Jerimiah Yost and Luke Gerow. “They did an excellent job of establishing the line of scrimmage tonight.”

Black Hills 53, Aberdeen 14

Down 13-0 at halftime, costly mistakes cost the Aberdeen Bobcats as they fell 53-14 to the undefeated Black Hills Wolves on Friday at Stewart Field.

“Our defense had a stellar first half,” said Aberdeen head coach Kevin Ridout, who added the Bobcats offense had troubles running the football against a tough Wolves defense. “We have to eliminate the small mistakes. If we do that, we’ll be fine.”

Aberdeen (1-6, 1-2 Evergreen 2A) cut the Black Hills lead to 13-6 when quarterback Ben Dublanko, who passed for over 350 yards on the night, found receiver Wyatt Johnson for an 85-yard score.

But the Wolves (7-0, 3-0) responded with 20 consecutive points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Dublanko hit Giovanni Pisani with a 22-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 33-14.

Yet again, Black Hills responded loudly, scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Dublanko was 19-for-35 passing for 354 yards, two TDs and an interception.

Johnson caught four passes for 135 yards and a score.

Pisani added four receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown for Aberdeen.

The Wolves’ running game totalled 302 yards on 11 carries for the game.

Aberdeen faces Rochester (1-5, 1-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at Rochester High School.
