Shelton 60, Aberdeen 43
Aberdeen couldn’t slow down Shelton in a 60-43 loss on Wednesday at Aberdeen High School.
The Bobcats (4-11, 2-5 2A Evergreen) led 10-5 after one quarter, thanks in large part to standout Highclimbers forward Cedar Wily being sidelined with early foul trouble.
But the Highclimbers (12-5, 5-2) seized control of the game when Wiley returned to the court as the Shelton junior scored 15 points in the second quarter as Aberdeen trailed 28-21 at the break.
Wily continued her hot shooting in the third frame, scoring 12 of her team’s 20 points in the period to put the Bobcats in a 48-29 hole entering the fourth quarter.
Wiley finished with a game-high 35 points that included five 3-pointers – many from NBA range – and scored 27 points in the second and third quarters combined.
“She dominated. She just had a game,” Aberdeen head coach Curtis Eccles said. “We couldn’t control her inside or outside.”
Aberdeen was led by sophomore point guard Sophia Knutson’s 16 points and six assists.
Alyvia Lamont had 12 rebounds to lead Aberdeen on the glass.
The Bobcats committed just 16 turnovers in the game, but according to Eccles it was a poor-shooting performance that hurt the Bobcats most.
“We did not shoot well inside the paint or out,” he said. “It was one of those nights.”
Aberdeen sits in fifth place in the 2A Evergreen Conference, one game behind Black Hills.
The Bobcats play at first-place W.F. West at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Shelton 5 23 20 12 – 60
Aberdeen 10 11 8 14 – 43
Scoring: Shelton – Wily 35. Aberdeen – Knutson 16, Brown 9, Lamont 7, Mainio 6, Dunlap 3, D. Shoemaker 2.
