Montesano 11, Tenino 6
Montesano made a big statement with a convincing 11-6 win over previously-undefeated Tenino in a 1A Evergreen League battle on Tuesday in Tenino.
The Bulldogs (10-1 overall, 4-0 1A Evergreen) broke a tie with the Beavers (10-1, 3-1) atop the league standings with the victory.
Tied at 2-2 in the top of the third, Bulldogs catcher Colton Grubb belted a leadoff home run to give Monte the lead followed later by an RBI single by infielder Kolson Hendrickson for a 4-2 lead.
The Bulldogs added a pair of runs on a Mason Fry double in the top of the fifth and added four runs in the fourth – highlighted by a run-scoring singles from Zach Timmons and right fielder Dennis Churchill to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
Monte’s offense had 13 hits in the game – five for extra bases – and was led by Grubb and Timmons with three hits apiece.
Eight different Bulldogs had a hit in the game and the Monte offense took advantage of Beavers mistakes, scoring four unearned runs on three Tenino errors.
Montesano left-hander Caden Grubb earned the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.
With the win, the Bulldogs move a game ahead of Tenino for the top spot in the 1A Evergreen League.
The Bulldogs host Tenino in a crucial doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Tumwater 3, Aberdeen 2
A solid outing by pitcher Bubba Jones wasn’t enough as Aberdeen fell to Tumwater 3-2 in a 2A Evergreen Conference game on Tuesday in Tumwater.
The Bobcats (4-3, 1-2 2A Evergreen) outhit the Thunderbirds (6-4, 4-0) as Jones allowed just three hits in the game, but Tumwater made the most of its opportunities to hand the Bobcats the loss.
Aberdeen trailed 2-0 after a Luke Overbay run-scoring triple followed by an RBI single from Landon Roy in the bottom of the first inning.
Derek Thompson added to Aberdeen’s deficit with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bobcats responded with a run on a ground out by Gabe Matthews followed by a single off the bat of Chad Fretts to score Aiden Baker, pulling Aberdeen to within a run.
With the tying run on second base and two outs, Mason Hill fouled out to catcher Wyatt Chase to end the Cats rally.
Tumwater reliever Braeden Konrad pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to hand the Bobcats the loss.
Aberdeen had six hits to just three for the T-Birds, with Hill leading the way after going 2 for 3 at the plate.
Jones took the loss, allowing three runs – two earned – on three hits and two walks while striking out six in six innings pitched.
Aberdeen sits in fourth place in the league and will host Tumwater at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Rochester 15, Elma 1
Elma fell behind big before its first at-bat in a 15-1 loss to Rochester on Tuesday in Elma.
The Eagles (3-6, 1-4 1A Evergreen) fell behind by seven runs after the first half-inning of play as the Warriors (6-4, 4-3) were helped by three Eagles errors in the top of the first.
Elma responded with a run when Isaac McGaffey scored on a ground out by Brody Palmer in the bottom of the frame, but Rochester pulled away by scoring runs in every inning – including a four-run fourth highlighted by a two-run single by Kole Smith – to put the game into 10-run rule territory.
Elma’s Jack Alexander and Ethan Camus each had a hit in the game.
The Elma defense committed 10 errors in the game, leading to nine unearned runs for Rochester.
Elma faces Rochester in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday in Rochester.
