The oldest high school football rivalry in the state of Washington highlights the Week 2 schedule of local high school football games.

Hoquiam at Aberdeen

The Bobcats (0-1 overall) and Grizzlies (1-0) will face each other for the 113th installment of the Myrtle Street Rivalry on at 7 p.m. Friday at Stewart Field.

Hoquiam is coming off of a 27-6 win that featured a big game from quarterback Payton Quintanilla, who threw for 291 yards on 16 of 28 passing.

Aberdeen couldn’t quite find chemistry with their offense in their season-opening game and totaled only 177 yards in a 40-8 loss to Montesano.

In that loss, Aberdeen defensive back Dakota Davis turned a fumble recovery into an 80-yard touchdown and snuffed out a drive with an interception in the third quarter.

Shelton at Montesano

The Bulldogs (1-0) wasted little time in dispatching of Aberdeen, using a balanced offense and taking advantage of three turnovers to defeat the Bobcats, 40-8, in Friday’s season-opener for both schools.

Monte will look to earn its second-consecutive win over a higher-division opponent on Friday when they host the Shelton Hillclimbers (3A) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Shelton (0-1) lost its opener to North Mason, 35-14, on Friday in the Mason County Cup game at Shelton High School.

The Hillclimbers were tied with North Mason, 7-7, at halftime, but fell behind 21-7 early in the fourth quarter before eventually succumbing to the Bulldogs.

Monte quarterback Shaydon Farmer (158 passing yards, two TDs) and Aydan Dast (140 rushing yards, two TDs) provided a balanced attack against Aberdeen and will likely be called upon to do the same when the Bulldogs face Shelton in its home opener Friday evening.

Rochester at Elma

Similar to its East County rival, the Elma Eagles hope the momentum of a season-opening blowout win will translate into success against a team that plays in a higher division.

After trouncing King’s Way Christian, 48-14, on the road last weekend, the Eagles will host the Rochester Warriors (2A) in their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday.

Elma’s Taitum Brumfield ran for 204 yards and four TDs to lead an Eagles ground attack that amassed nearly 500 yards of total offense against an overmatched Knights team last week.

The Eagles should face a considerably more difficult challenge in Rochester (1-0), which defeated Tenino, 53-20, in its season-opener. In that game, Rochester fullback Grayson Johnson ran for 118 yards on 19 carries and scored three TDs for a Warriors rushing attack that tallied up 306 yards in the game.

Chief Leschi at Ocosta

Ocosta (1-0) used its defense to grind out a 14-7 win against La Conner and will be looking to stay undefeated against visiting Chief Leschi at 7 p.m. Friday in Ocosta.

The Wildcats had trouble getting the offense going in the first half but the defense made life difficult for La Conner’s offensive unit. Ocosta won the game with two TD passes from quarterback Cole Hatton in the second half.

In sharp contrast, Chief Leschi lost a close one in a shootout with Crescent by a score of 58-50.

The Warriors defense had trouble stopping the run and allowed Crescent’s Noah Leonard to run for 233 yards and five touchdowns.

Raymond at Morton White Pass

Raymond will be hoping to get some more points on the board as it looks to for its first win of the season when it faces Morton White Pass in Week 2.

The Seagulls suffered a loss in the season opener against Rainier when they fell into an early deficit that their running game couldn’t dig out of.

Raymond ended up with 202 yards on the ground but the passing game struggled as quarterback Jack Jordan went 2-for-10 for 42 yards.

Patrick Edwards was one of the bright spots for Raymond, gaining 125 yards on the ground with a touchdown.

Scoring wasn’t much of an issue for Morton-White Pass in its season opener against Neah Bay, a 56-14 blowout-victory.

The Timberwolves defense forced three turnovers.and recorded 6.5 sacks in that game.

MWP also got a solid game from running back Garvyn Higdon (106 yards, 3 TD).

The two-run heavy teams will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday in Morton.

Winlock at South Bend

After enduring a loss on the road against Mossyrock last week, South Bend will be looking to benefit from the support of the home crowd when they take on Winlock at 7 p.m. Friday at South Bend High School.

The Indians (0-1) had trouble scoring points in the 20-8 loss to Mossyrock but was still able to show some positive things on the offensive side of the ball.

Quarterback Drew Rose went 8-for-16 through the air with 120 yards and a touchdown.

Rose’s teammate Hunter Clements made an impact on defense with a team-leading 10 tackles.

Winlock’s running game helped power its win over North Beach as the Cardinals rushed for 151 of their 280 total yards.

Winlock quarterback Bryce Cline went 4-for-8 with 129 yards through the air.

Lyle/Wirsham at Oakville

A young Oakville squad with more eighth graders than seniors will get a chance to get some experience when they take on Lyle-Wirsham in the Acorns’ season-opening game.

Oakville will be getting their senior leadership from Sam Starr-Wright, who will be on the offensive line and at linebacker.

Lyle-Wirsham went 5-2 in their district last year and went on a playoff run that ended with a 57-14 loss to Liberty. The Cougars lost eight players off last season’s team and will likely rely on senior quarterback Desean Leslie to lead the offense this year.

Oakville and Lyle Wirsham will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday at Oakville High School.

Concrete at Pe Ell-Willapa Valley

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley and Concrete will be a matchup of two teams looking to bounce back after disappointing results in their season opening games.

PWV dropped the season opener by a score of 35-0 against Adna where the Titans only completed one pass for five yards.

The Titans (0-1) had to rely on ground game for the majority of its offense with Peter Hamilton leading the way with 44 yards.

The PWV defense gave up 412 yards against the Pirates. PWV linebackers Max Smith and Kollin Jurek both recorded a team-leading nine tackles.

Concrete (0-1) didn’t have much success either with its 52-7 season-opening loss to Terry Fox last week.

The Titans will honor members from their 1970’s state championship teams at halftime.

Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season with a contest that kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Willapa.
