Mules drop Wildcats, 34-7

Kobe Beck has 37-yard TD run for Ocosta

Mules 34, Wildcats 7

CATHLAMET — Ocosta kept up with Wahkiakum through the first two quarters but ran out of steam going into the second half of Friday night’s 34-7 loss at Wahkiakum.

“Offensively, we’re coming together,” said Ocosta head coach Chris Raffelson. “It’s a new program and the kids are learning it. This was their first game because we had a forfeit last week and we played against a really good team.”

The Mules (2-0) opened the scoring in the first quarter and held an 8-0 lead going into the second. The Wildcats scored their lone touchdown on an option in the second quarter that saw Kobe Beck take it to the end zone from 37 yards out. The Mules started to pull away in the third quarter, leading 21-7 going into the fourth. Wahkiakum added onto its lead in the fourth to finish off the win.

“Defensively, we got tired in the end, they have a lot of speed,” Raffelson said. “We shut them down pretty well in the first part of the game, but our guys just got tired toward the end.”

Raffelson noted the tackling by defensive backs Beck and Noah Martin as a positive aspect of the game.

The Wildcats (1-1) will host Winlock on Friday.
