Montesano third baseman Jessica Stanfield will be joining her sister in college as the slugging senior signed a Letter of Intent on Friday to play for Central Washington University in the fall.
Stanfield, one of a small handful of front runners for the 1A class Player of the Year, is an imposing force at the plate and on the base paths for the Bulldogs. In a recent doubleheader against Elma, the Bulldogs’ leadoff hitter went a combined 4-for-5 with a home run, five runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base.
Facing the reigning 2B state champion Adna Pirates and their University of Idaho-bound ace pitcher Haley Rainey, Stanfield went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, two stolen bases and a monster solo home run.
“I have been fortunate to coach three Stanfields and they have been dominant players in softball,” Montesano head coach Pat Pace said, referencing Stanfield sisters Samantha and current Bulldogs Jessica and Mikayla. “Having two Stanfields at the same time is better than one, so I think Central Washington University is getting a great deal.”
