Montesano players earn top honors as 1A Evergreen All-League girls soccer team named

Streeter named League MVP; Paige Lisherness Defensive MVP for second straight season

Montesano senior midfielder Brooke Streeter was named the Most Valuable Player as the district-champion Bulldogs earned the most honors as the 1A Evergreen League announced its all-league teams on Wednesday.

Streeter, who was named the league’s Offensive MVP last season, took the top award this year of the overall League MVP after leading the Bulldogs to a 10-2-1 season, a share of the league title with Tenino, and a District 4 championship.

Streeter joined the 50/50 club on March 11, scoring two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Hoquiam to eclipse 50 goals and 50 assists in her high school career.

“I think it’s crazy,” Streeter said of being named the league’s top player after winning Offensive MVP last season. “I’ve been working really hard for four years and it’s kind of like my hard work has paid off.”

For the second consecutive season, Montesano midfielder Paige Lisherness was named the league’s Defensive MVP. A junior holding midfielder, Lisherness often is tasked with marking the opposition’s top scorers and is an integral part of a Monte defense that allowed just 10 goals this season.

“I’m just so proud of her for getting (Defensive MVP), not only this year but last year as well,” Streeter said of her teammate. “As a players she’s really smart. … She has the mind of a defender but also knows what it’s like to be an offensive player. I think she is very versatile in her way of playing.”

Montesano head coach Fidel Sanchez and his staff were named the league’s top coaching staff while five additional Monte players were named to the first team.

Forward Zoee Lisherness, midfielders Jaiden Morrison and Jaiden King, and defenders Maddi Campbell and Emma Salazar all earned First Team honors.

Hoquiam earned two First Team honors with forward Sadie Carlyle and goal keeper Katie Burnett being named to the league’s top squad.
