NAPAVINE — Unable to fully capitalize on a huge advantage in shots on goal, Ocosta dropped a shootout to Napavine in a Central League contest Monday at Napavine.

The previously winless Tigers led 3-1 at the half, with Kjirstin Hopfer scoring off an assist from Adraina Huerta.

A pair of Katelynn Denny goals tied it in the 69th minute. Napavine regained the lead in the 73rd minute, but Hopfer found the mark after taking a Denny direct kick into the box with two minutes remaining.

Although the Wildcats dominated possession, overtime ended scoreless. Napavine made two of four penalty kicks in overtime, while the Wildcats missed all of theirs.

Ocosta outshot the Tigers 24-6 in regulation. Wildcat coach Mike King cited the play of Trinity White and Maia Soderlund.

The Wildcats host Winlock on Wednesday.

Cougars 5, Grizzlies 0

PUYALLUP — State-ranked Cascade Christian dominated play in downing Hoquiam in a non-league contest Monday at Puyallup.

The Cougars scored in the 12th, 17th and 25th minutes to build a 3-0 halftime lead. Cascade Christian outshot the Grizzlies, 19-5.

“They are ranked in the top five in the state and they certainly showed it,” HHS coach Drew Grannemann reported. “Overall, it was a great learning experience for our young squad. We had brief moments of solid passing combinations.”

The Grizzlies (1-4-1) open Evergreen 1A League play on Thursday at Forks.
