Hoquiam continued to show it’s a top-tier volleyball team with a straight-set victory over Ocosta on Monday in Hoquiam.

The Grizzlies (11-0 overall) played a solid all-around game in winning their 10th straight-set victory in 11 games this season by scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-15.

Hoquiam made very few mistakes in an efficient performance. The Grizzlies missed just one serve, had three dig errors and were off-target on a mere six passes over the course of the match.

“We played basic volleyball well and I’m proud of how we stayed enthusiastic and in the moment,” Hoquiam head coach Heather Bozich said. “I’m really happy with the performance. Our team stayed focused and limited the errors on our side of the net.”

Hoquiam got contributions from several players on Monday. Libero Graci Bonney-Spradlin (20 digs), outside hitter Ashlinn Cady (18 digs, 15-15 service), defensive specialist Carron Blood (10 digs, 13-13 service), middle hitter Chloe Kennedy (13 kills) and setter Ella Folkers (24 assists, 12 digs, 22-22 service, 6 aces) all had double-digit stats in the victory.

Ocosta was led by setter Brynn Rasmus (6 assists) and got a boost from junior middle blocker Alexia Bradley and senior opposite hitter Emily Scott, each of whom returned to the lineup after being previously sidelined.

Bradley — who had been out for two weeks with an injury — had two solo blocks in the game, as did senior middle hitter Alexandria Matthews.

“It was good to have both Emily Scott and Alexia Bradley in the lineup tonight,” Ocosta head coach Erin Snider said. “It will be helpful to have them for league play this week.”

Hoquiam will play at Eatonville at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Ocosta (6-8) will play at South Bend, also at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The Vikings (9-4, 6-3 1B Columbia Valley) defeated Three Rivers 18-25, 25-11, 25-13 and 25-16.

Willapa Valley was led by Lauryn McGough (10 kills, 7 aces, 9 assists, 6 digs), Grace Huber (11 solo blocks), Gaby Quezada (7 solo blocks), Sam Sheary (12 assists) and Ella Petit (7 kills, 6 aces).

The Vikings started slowly but rallied from down 10 points before losing the first set 25-18.

Willapa Valley carried the momentum over the next three games, winning handily as the Vikings were cheered on by its junior varsity squad against a raucous Three Rivers crowd.

“We struggled to find our serve-receive flow in the first set, but once we did we made a huge comeback,” Vikings head coach Karisa Hodel said. “The next three sets we found our intensity. … We were able to stay up and not get down to get the win.”

Willapa Valley will face Naselle at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Willapa Valley High School.
