GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wildcats 49, T-Wolves 45

CENTRALIA – Scoring seven unanswered points in the final 50 seconds, Ocosta stayed alive in the District IV Class 2B Girls Basketball Tournament by edging Morton-White Pass on Monday night at Centralia.

The Wildcats (17-6) will face Mossyrock in another loser-out contest scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Castle Rock.

Ahead for most of the way, Ocosta endured a shooting slump early in the fourth quarter and trailed by three entering the final minute.

Kjirstin Hopfer tied it with a 3-point basket with 50 seconds remaining. The Wildcats then forced the Timberwolves into turnovers on their next two possessions.

Ocosta’s Kaylee Barnum converted both, hitting from the top of the key with about 30 seconds remaining to give the Wildcats the lead and concluding the scoring with a layin.

The Wildcats survived 22 percent field-goal shooting, although winning coach Jason Barnum said several of his team’s attempts rimmed out.

Kaylee Barnum finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and a pair of steals. Hopfer, 8-of-9 from the foul line, tallied 19 points. Kristi Raffelson pulled down 15 rebounds for the Wildcats.
