Mark Bruener to speak at annual Steve Paul golf tournament July 10

The 2021 Steve Paul golf tournament, dinner and auction is scheduled for Saturday, July 10, at the Ocean Shores Golf Course.

Included in the $135 entry fee are a round of golf with celebrity coaches, a cart, snack, a T-shirt, a ticket to prime rib/chicken Marsala buffet dinner and auction, as well as an invitation to a football youth camp to be held on Sunday, July 11, at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.

Former Aberdeen High School and University of Washington football player, and former first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mark Bruener will be one of the after-dinner speakers. Bruener was part of the University of Washington’s 1991 co-national championship team.

Bruener will be joined by former Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers coach Dennis Erickson, who also coached at Washington State University and Arizona State. Erickson also coached the University of Miami Hurricane football team in 1991 that shared the national title with Bruener’s Huskies.

The dinner/auction and football camp are hosted by Grays Harbor Youth Athletics, established in 2015, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the youth of the Grays Harbor County. Funds raised will support the organization and its annual free football camp, which in 2019 drew more than 220 participants and featured former Philadelphia Eagles coach Dick Vermeil.

“Grays Harbor Youth Athletics was formed to promote youth sports in Grays Harbor and help drive the fundamentals of sports — work ethic, discipline, teamwork, academic excellence, and motivation/goal setting for the young people of Grays Harbor,” said Dana LeDuc, one of the organizers.

Besides Bruener and Erickson, dozens of other current and former football coaches and players will be in attendance over the weekend.

For non-golfers, tickets to the July 10 dinner and auction only are available for $50. A silent auction begins at 4:30 at the Ocean Shores Convention Center, followed by dinner and a live auction at 6 p.m.

Auction items include computers, autographed football memorabilia, and a Seabrook package, among others.
