Local golfers shine at district touranments

GIRLS GOLF

1A District

TUMWATER — Montesano’s Macey Wecker picked a perfect time to shoot her first round in the 80s during competitive play. Wecker posted an 83 on Tuesday to finish with a total of 173 and win the District IV 1A girls golf tournament at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.

Wecker sat in third place, three strokes behind Ilwaco’s Aslyn Fisher going into Tuesday, but she cut the margin to one stroke after nine holes and stayed focused to win by six strokes. Wecker led the Bulldogs, but five girls from Montesano finished in the top nine to qualify for state and bring home the district title for the Bulldogs as well.

“The kids showed up today and backed up the stellar team performance that they put on yesterday, and all season, with another solid showing from top to bottom,” Montesano head coach Lloyd Aldrich said. “(Macey’s) final round 83 was her first time in the 80s in competition and for her to do it in today’s conditions and under this kind of pressure is a testimony to the countless hours of preparation she has put into her game over the past year.”

Montesano finished with 91 points as a team, almost doubling up the 46 1/2 points by second-place Ilwaco.

Montesano’s McKenna Miller finished with a 110 on Tuesday to place fourth with a total of 206, while Mylania Parker carded a 108 on Tuesday to place fifth. Glory Grubb and Lauren Denholm each carded rounds of 113 on Tuesday to finish in seventh and eighth place respectively.
