LAWRENCE, KS — Raymond’s Karlee Freeman put an exclamation point on her week at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships at the University of Kansas on Friday.
On her fifth toss in the 17-18 women’s discus, Freeman reset her career best throw and a Washington State junior class record with a 171-4 to win the event for a 17-18 national title on Friday. The top-three finishers in the event all went past 170 feet.
Earlier in the week, Freeman took ninth in the hammer throw at 141-2 on Monday and a fourth-place spot in the shot put at 43-5 3/4 in a downpour on Wednesday.
Freeman’s winning discus throw reset the state junior class record by more than 10 feet. It was previously held by Pullman’s Kate Hutchinson at 160-5. Freeman’s previous personal best was 159-8 and now has two career discus national titles, her first coming in 2014 in the 13-14 age group.
