TRACK &FIELD

CHEHALIS — The two-day Chehalis Activators track and field meet brought plenty of personal records and season bests for Twin Harbor athletes, as well as a few event wins on Saturday afternoon.

In team standings, Hoquiam finished third overall and North Beach was fourth overall in the boys classic meet on Saturday. Aberdeen’s boys finished third in the Friday invitational meet.

Elma’s girls took second overall in the Friday invitational meet.

Sowle was the main individual medalist of the day, winning the girls’ 100-meter sprint and outjumping the field in the high and long jumps.

Aberdeen’s Faith Cardenas won the 400m sprint and Elma’s Jillian Bieker won the 300m low hurdles. Raymond’s Karlee Freeman also took home a discus win, as well as top-four finishes in the shot put and javelin.

North Beach’s Bridge was the Harbor’s best individual medalist with wins the shot put and discus events. Anthony Nash (200m) and Devin Merksick (high jump) won events for Hoquiam.

Tully cited Luke Hamilton for his season-best throws in the shot put and discus and freshman McCarthy Maden for taking fifth overall in both the 110 and 300m hurdles.

Trappers 5, Elks 4

VANCOUVER — Host Fort Vancouver, a Class 3A school, scored in the first three innings and held on to survive a non-league win over Lake Quinault on Saturday afternoon.

Anthony DeMarco and Gabe Dominguez shut off the Trappers (2-8 overall) after they scored all five of their runs in the first three innings. DeMarco helped the Elks (5-2 overall) with two hits at the plate, while Dominguez had one run driven in.

“We made a lot of mental mistakes and a lot of physical errors,” Lake Quinault head coach Keith Samplawski said. “However, our pitchers were able to control the game, so we didn’t give up that big inning. They did a very good job. I’m proud of the way the team played. It was encouraging to see them battle back when we were down.”

On Tuesday, Lake Quinault is scheduled to visit Mary M. Knight.
