LONGVIEW — Grays Harbor Babe Ruth came within one game of the Southern Washington Babe Ruth 15U state title game on Friday, ending its postseason run.
With the top-two teams from the state moving on to the Pacific Northwest 15U Babe Ruth tournament in Kelso, Grays Harbor needed two wins on Friday to get there. After knocking off Twin Cities in eight innings, Grays Harbor fell to KWRL, 22-13.
Grays Harbor came into the day with a 2-1 record, with wins over Lower Valley (9-5) in the consolation bracket and an 18-8 win over Longview in the opening round. However, an 11-2 loss to Camas/Washougal on the second day moved Grays Harbor into the consolation bracket.
Against Longview, Liam Odell had three hits and four RBI, including a double, to lead Grays Harbor. Joel Emery added three hits and five RBI as well. Cole Hatton picked up the win on the mound, striking out five and walking two in four innings of work.
Against Camas/Washougal, Grays Harbor fell behind quickly with all of the scoring coming in the first four innings. Odell had three hits and two RBI at the plate.
In a loser-out contest, Grays Harbor never trailed against Lower Valley. Cole Hatton won his second game on the mound and Troy McMinn slugged three hits to lead at the plate. Jaiden Watters and Emery each drove in two runs.
