GHC women hold off Shoreline, 84-81

SHORELINE — Down by three at halftime, Grays Harbor College came out hot in the second half and withstood a late charge by host Shoreline to register an 84-81 NWAC non-divisional win in women’s basketball on Tuesday night.

Alexia Thrower led all scorers with 26 points and seven rebounds for the Chokers, who led by as many as 10 (79-69) late in the contest before the Dolphins rallied with a closing 12-3 run.

“Shoreline came out and was the more aggressive team tonight,” GHC head coach Chad Allan said. “We did just enough in the third quarter to last for the win. This is a good win on the road when we are not playing well. No excuses, we are just flat-out not playing defense. We have some time to right the ship, but a lot of learning left to do.”

Estelle Wilson added 11 points and five rebounds for GHC. Both teams had plenty of chances at the free-throw line, combinig for 79 attempts at the stripe — 19 of 34 for the Chokers and 21 of 45 for the Dolphins.

On Saturday, GHC (2-2 overall) stays on the road to take on Linn-Benton.
