Grays Harbor made a late surge to upend Tacoma in the women’s half of the doubleheader.

Facing a Tacoma team that entered the game at 5-2 in league and 16-4 overall, the Chokers trailed 47-44 before erupting for 24 points in the fourth quarter.

With the Chokers up by two in the late going, Grays Harbor’s Jayln Brasher-Norwood made a lay-up and was fouled. She missed the ensuing free throw, but Alexia Thrower rebounded the miss and passed to a driving Norwood for another basket and a six-point margin.

Thrower made four late free throws to seal the victory. The Titans made a 3-point basket at the buzzer.

“This was a game of runs and lead changes. The ladies followed the game plan well,” GHC coach Chad Allan said. “A great team effort and grit to have the last run of the game.”

Thrower had a double-double with 24 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Brasher-Norwood added 16 points and six rebounds for the Chokers (3-5, 8-12).

Allan commended the defense of Angela Sikora and Shauntel Efferson in limiting Titan ace Bobbi Westendorf to 12 points. Romey Begay and Hepuakea Falealii were also cited for overall play.
