LONGVIEW — Grays Harbor College found its unity and team style on Saturday night, taking Lower Columbia as far as it could go in this NWAC Western Division matchup.

Five GHC players finished with double-digit scoring, led by Guy Bean’s 18 points on 6-of-9 3-point attempts and seven rebounds. John Robinson added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

“The guys found their focus tonight,” GHC head coach Alonzo Cole said. “We got beat, but we played a helluva game. They played very well against a very formidable opponent. I can’t say how proud I am of how well they played. I’m sad that it took this long to see this potential from them.”

The Chokers trailed 43-37 at the half, but got as close as four several times in the second half.

Cole also announced freshman Tiki Hickle is no longer on the team due to disciplinary reasons.

On Wednesday, GHC (3-10, 7-21) will finish the season at home against Centralia.

LONGVIEW — Lower Columbia feasted on Grays Harbor College turnovers in ending the Chokers’ five-game winning streak on Saturday at Longview.

Grays Harbor was guilty of 36 turnovers, resulting in 37 Red Devil points.

“We just could not match their energy and we were soft with the ball, so those 36 turnovers killed us,” Grays Harbor coach Chad Allan said. “Hats off to LCC for playing that caliber of ball this time of year and showing us how far we need to go.”

Four Red Devils scored in double figures, led by Tywanna Abbott’s 13 points.

Grays Harbor’s Alexia Thrower led all scorers with 17 points. Angela Sikora added 11 and Jaylin Brasher-Norwood tallied 10 points.

The Chokers (7-6, 12-13), who sit in fourth place in the NWAC West, will close out their regular season Wednesday at home against Centralia.
