Wildcats sweep Indians

WESTPORT — Patience paid off for Ocosta as the Wildcats slugged their way to 11-1 and 13-0 victories over South Bend at GAR Park on Friday.

The Wildcats (7-1, 8-3) worked the count early in the first game and capitalized when walks and errors resulted in the game winning runs coming around to score in the first inning. Ocosta batted around to score seven runs in the sixth inning.

“It was a great pitchers’ duel going into the fifth inning and then we broke things open,” Ocosta head coach Mike Allton said. “We were patient at the plate and we took advantage of their relief pitching.”

In the second game, Ocosta’s bats didn’t need much time to heat up as the Wildcats put up three runs each in the first and third innings.

“Everything kind of came together,” Allton said of the nightcap. “It was good to have a complete game tonight.”

Allton cited Cole Hatton for his strong pitching performance in the first game.

Ocosta hosts Hoquiam JV on Tuesday, while South Bend (3-3) will be off until they host Chief Leschi on April 25.

Eagles 16, Crimson Bears 6

ELMA — A pair of seven-run innings helped Elma thump Juneau-Douglas in a non-league contest Friday at the Ventron Complex.

Playing the touring Crimson Bears from Alaska immediately following their league game with Montesano, the Eagles were tied at 2-2 after 2 1/2 innings. But Kaylee Rambo and Molly Johnston each doubled and Destry Dineen delivered a two-out single in a seven-run Elma third. The Eagles added seven more in the fourth.

Dineen had three hits to pace Elma’s attack.

“We played a lot cleaner (than against Montesano). We didn’t have any errors, so I was happy about that,” Elma coach Roger Elliott said.

The Eagles made liberal use of reserves.

TRACK AND FIELD

Oregon Relays

EUGENE, Ore. — Raymond’s Karlee Freeman bested her season best discus throw by almost nine feet to record a 155-2 throw at the Oregon Relays on Friday.

The junior finished second behind Shelby Moran of Sherwood, Ore., who threw a personal best distance of 162-10. Moran’s distance was an Oregon state record.

“Karlee threw really well and definitely had her best series of the season,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “She was really happy with how it went other than losing. She wasn’t too happy about that part.”

Freeman will take part in the hammer throw at the Relays tomorrow.
