Willapa Valley 74, Raymond 55

A complete performance by their team captain led to a complete performance by the team as the Willapa Valley Vikings beat Raymond 74-55 on Friday in Menlo.

Willapa Valley’s Logan Walker had a monster game, scoring 18 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out six assists in an effort Willapa Valley head coach Jay Pearson said typifies leadership.

“I believe that leadership is sacrificing yourself to make your teammates better and Logan did that tonight,” Pearson said of his 6-foot-3 junior. “It was Logan’s most superior game of the season.”

Walker also had an impact on the defensive end, holding high-scoring Raymond sophomore Tre’ Seydel to 15 points through three quarters.

Willapa Valley (8-4 overall, 8-2 Pacific 2B) got off to a hot start, outscoring Raymond (3-8, 3-6) 25-14 in the first quarter and 21-11 in the second frame.

The Vikings also shared the ball with a season-best 14 assists in the game.

“We’ve been pressing too hard to get off to a good start,” Pearson said. “Going into the game, our key focus was to let the game come to you and take what it gives you. That was probably our best first half of the season.”

Aside from Walker, two additional Vikings players scored in double figures. Chad Flemetis led Willapa Valley with 19 points and Carter Pearson scored 14 points for the Vikings.

Seydel led Raymond with 24 points, nine of those coming in the fourth quarter against Willapa Valley’s bench, to go along with eight rebounds. Adrian Quintana scored 15 points for the Seagulls.

“We matched up against a really tough opponent this evening,” Raymond head coach Derek Rask said. “Their length and size was just too much for us. I thought we had a solid plan going in, but they executed well”

With the win, Willapa Valley stays among the league leaders in the Pacific League. The Vikings sit in a tie for second place with Northwest Christian. Both teams are a half-game behind Life Christian in the standings.

The loss drops Raymond to seventh place in the league, a half game behind Chief Leschi.

Ocosta 64, Pe Ell 40

Cole Hatton scored 22 points and Omar Luque added a double-double as Ocosta beat Pe Ell on Friday in Westport.

Hatton tallied 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists as Ocosta (6-5, 6-4 Pacific 2B) shot 23-for-56 from the field (41%).

Luque scored 16 points to go along with five rebounds for the Wildcats, which used its press defense to get easy transition buckets.

Pe Ell (4-8, 3-7) got off to a hot start, hitting its first four shots, including three 3-pointers. But struggled with the Ocosta defense after that, shooting 16-for-47 as a team (38%) for the game.

Kollin Jurek and Joey McCalden scored 11 points to lead Pe Ell.

Life Christian 61, North Beach 42

The North Beach Hyaks lost to league-leading Life Christian Academy 61-42 on Friday in Tacoma.

North Beach (2-10, 2-8) was led by Tre’Vaughn Green, who scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Reagan Harnagy added 12 points and seven boards for the Hyaks while Josh Bighead had eight points and six assists for North Beach.

Elma 62, Hoquiam 27

Elma jumped out to a 25-0 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 62-27 win over Hoquiam on Friday in Elma.

Jalyn Sackrider scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Eagles (8-4, 1-0 Evergreen 1A), which had 21 assists and 21 steals as a team.

Kali Rambo had 12 points for Elma and senior point guard Jillian Bieker scored six points, had six assists and recorded six steals for the Eagles.

Sharaya Brydon and Maddie German led Hoquiam (2-10, 0-2) with six and five points, respectively.

Montesano 65, Tenino 30

Montesano’s stellar senior center Zoe Hutchings passed a major milestone in the Bulldogs’ 65-30 victory over Tenino on Friday in Tenino.

In scoring 18 points, Hutchings surpassed 1,000 points in her high school career.

McKynnlie Dalan led Monte (7-6, 2-0 Evergreen 1A) with 19 points while Paige Lisherness added 15 points for the Bulldogs.
