ELMA — Breaking things open with a 22-point second quarter, Elma downed Tenino in an Evergreen 1A League contest Friday at Elma.
The Eagles (2-2, 3-13) snapped a 10-all standoff with their big second quarter.
“We were pressuring them into a lot of turnovers,” Elma coach Jeff Niemi said. “Our press created a lot of baskets for us.”
Cody Vollan had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Eagles. Ray Billerbeck and Cobey Moore had 12 points each, while Brady Johnston contributed five steals and four assists.
The Eagles host Forks on Friday.

MENLO — Matt Pearson and Ryon Ashley had double-doubles as Willapa Valley beat North Beach in a Pacific 2B League game Friday at Tenoski Gym.
Pearson scored 25 points while also contributing 10 rebounds, five steals and five assists. Ashley finished with 16 points and 17 boards.
The Vikings outrebounded the Hyaks, 55-31, and also shot much better in the second half.
“We started attacking the basket,” Valley coach Jay Pearson said.
Logan Walker scored 17 points, hitting four 3-pointers in the third quarter, for the Vikings.
Coach Pearson cited Chad Flemetis and Frank Roonsburg for their defense on North Beach ace Steven Sotomish.
Ben Poplin topped North Beach with 17 points.
The Vikings (8-2, 11-2) visit Ilwaco on Thursday. On Thursday, the Hyaks (4-7, 5-10) host Raymond.

LACEY — The two teams were neck and neck going down the final stretch but it was Ocosta’s boys who pulled out ahead at the finish line in their 62-60 victory over Northwest Christian.
Ocosta fell behind early but tightened up on defense and spent most of the second half protecting a slim lead that never grew larger than five points.
Cole Hatton had 19 points and Richard Dueber 18 for the Wildcats.
“Played good, solid defense at the end and went 1-7 on free throws in the last two minutes. We got just enough defense to get win and came up with one last stop at the end.” said Ocosta head coach Jason Quimby.
Ocosta will play (4-7, 7-8) will play at South Bend on Thursday.

TAHOLAH —Taholah used an aggressive defense to power its offense as it cruised to a victory at home against Oakville on Friday.
James Purdy and Jayson Mowitch, who had six steals each, were keys to stifling defensive effort.
Chitwhins head coach Mike Rose said his team was hitting on all cylinders with scoring coming from a variety of players. James Orozco led the way with 23 points.
“Everybody lit it up, I had five people in double-digit scoring,” he said. “We were really moving the ball and getting a lot of steals. We had 22 steals and a lot of them led to breakaways.”
Taholah (4-0, 8-3) will stay at home and take on Wishkah on Tuesday.

WISHKAH —Lake Quinault got the job done on the defensive end and never let the Loggers get comfortable for an easy win on Friday night.
Lake Quinault (0-3, 1-7) picked up its first win of the season thanks in part to a good offensive performance from Kenneth Sellers, who led the team with 11 points.
Murray Cottrell also had a solid evening with nine points. Ryan Dougherty had 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists.
The Elks will try to build their first win streak of the season when they face North River at home Tuesday. Wishkah will have Taholah at home on Tuesday.

SOUTH BEND — Naselle used its long-range shooting to beat South Bend in a Pacific 2B League game Friday at Koplitz Fieldhouse.
The Comets were 8-of-15 from 3-point range.
Drew Rose had 17 points and 14 rebounds for South Bend (2-12). Cody Jones had 12 rebounds and three blocked shots and Nathan Ashley nine rebounds for the Tribe.
The Indians host Ocosta on Thursday.

“I thought, for the most part, we played pretty well,” Raymond coach Mike Tully said. “They’re just a very good team.”
Marcus Anderson had 15 points and six rebounds and Devine Souvannavanh 13 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Gulls (3-7, 5-9).
Raymond visits Northwest Christian on Monday.

“They were so patient and efficient and we weren’t,” North River coach Sean Pierson said. “Eventually, we calmed down and started playing better.”

SOUTH BEND — Allowing only one South Bend player to score, South Bend rolled to a non-league victory Friday.
Karley Reidinger led the way with 11 points and came up with eight rebounds and five steals. Jessica Sanchez also played well and had nine rebounds and five steals to go along with her seven points.
South Bend head coach Gary Wilson said he liked the defensive effort but wasn’t too thrilled with the offense, despite the win.
“We were good on defense and bad on offense. We really struggled executing our offense,” he said. “When we did get good looks, we couldn’t finish.”
South Bend (6-4,10-4) will play again on Tuesday at Ocosta.

LACEY — Ocosta’s girls dominated a rebuilding Northwest Christian program and didn’t allow it to get into double digits a Pacific 2B League win Friday.
The Wildcats came out with a high-pressure defense that didn’t even allow a point in the third quarter and got steals that led to easy points on the other end.
Ocosta got good shooting from Kjirstin Hopfer, who led the team with 15 points and hit three 3-pointers.
Wildcats head coach Jason Barnum said the scoring came from all over the floor.
“Converted their turnovers into baskets and we shot really well from the outside,” he said. “We scored from the outside and got put-backs from the outside. We just overpowered them.”
Ocosta (7-4, 10-4) will face South Bend at home on Tuesday.

TAHOLAH — Dealing with a lot of emotion, Taholah’s girls got off to a slow start but turned it on in the second quarter to pull away and beat Oakville, 45-30.
Before tip-off, Taholah recognized former student athlete Jimmy Smith-Kramer, who died last summer, by retiring his No. 5 jersey.
Taholah head coach Karl Braden said his team had trouble focusing on the game after the ceremony but was glad to see them pull it together in the second half.
“We got off to a slow start. It took them awhile a get going, but we were able to get the reserves some playing time, so we’re building. We’re getting there.”
Denise Curleybear had 20 points for Taholah.
Taholah (4-0, 8-2) will take on Wishkah in a road game on Tuesday.

WISHKAH — Lake Quinault found itself down for most of the second half, but used its transition game to edge out Wishkah in the fourth quarter.
“We did well passing the ball and got a few turnovers down the stretch that we scored on,” said Lake Quinault Coach Travis Carstensen.
Carstensen also highlighted Kat Neeland, who contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Wishkah (1-3) got a solid game from Jesse Thompson, who had six points and nine rebounds.
Lake Quinault ( 2-2, 5-4) will try build on the momentum from the win and will take on North River at home on Tuesday.
Wishkah will try to bounce back with a home game against Taholah on Tuesday.
