Elma girls romp, boys fall at Forks

Elma girls remain unbeaten with lopsided win at Forks

FORKS — Elma’s girls cruised but Forks turned back the Eagle boys in an Evergreen 1A League co-ed basketball basketball doubleheader Tuesday at Forks.

The unbeaten Eagle girls romped to a 67-12 rout in a league opener. Forks used its long-range shooting to top Elma’s boys, 59-40.

Details of the girls game were not immediately available.

Forks’ boys knocked down six 3-pointers in gradually pulling away from Elma. The Eagles were within six points in the third quarter before the Spartans pulled away.

The contest included 43 turnovers, 24 by Elma.

“They seemed to convert theirs into baskets better than us,” Elma coach Jeff Niemi said.

Cody Vollan topped Elma with 13 points. Brady Johnston contributed three steals and three assists. Micah Swint was cited by Niemi for reserve play.

Both Elma teams will host Hoquiam later in the week. The boys (0-1, 1-11) entertain the Grizzlies on Thursday. The girls (1-0, 13-0) will be home against Hoquiam on Friday.
