Chehalis beats Hoquiam, 39-6

Jackson Folkers scores on 57-yard interceoption return for Grizzlies.

Bearcats 39, Grizzlies 6

Hoquiam ended up a bit out mannned on the road against Class 2A Chehalis, falling to the Bearcats, 39-6 in the season opener for both teams.

The Grizzlies found themselve in a hole early as Chehalis score 21 points in the first quarter.

“It was typical 1A vs. 2A,” said Hoquiam head coach Jeremy McMillan. “Their team speed killed us, and we’re young — we made a lot of mistakes.

Hoquiam’s only score came in the second quarter on a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown by junior defensive back Jackson Folkers.

McMillan said Hoquiam had about 200 yards of total offense, while Chehalis had more than 370 yards.

McMillan cited senior linebacker Chewy Muro as a defensive standout.

“It was first game we have a long ways to go,” said McMillan.

Hoquiam (0-1) will host rival Aberdeen (0-1) on Friday night at Olympic Stadium.
