Boys Prep Wrestling Roundup: Twin Harbor teams find success at weekend wrestling meets

A busy weekend of boys prep wrestling action was highlighted by Aberdeen placing third at the River Ridge Rumble and Raymond High School hosting a tournament.

BOYS PREP WRESTLING

Aberdeen third at River Ridge Rumble

The Aberdeen Bobcats placed third overall at the River Ridge Rumble on Saturday at Timberline High School in Lacey.

Led by individual champions Talatheon Warness (106 pounds), Mikey Hatton (150) and Erick Silveira (165), Aberdeen scored 148.5 points to place third overall in the team standings behind first-place Shelton (164 points) and Forks (162).

Warness won his title match via 19-4 tech fall over Gig Harbor’s Jack Greer.

Hatton won via 17-7 major decision over Mount Vernon’s Bryson Keller to win the 150-pound weight class.

Silveira pinned Timberline’s Christian Davidson at 5:35 to win the 165-pound final.

Hoquiam, Willapa Harbor top teams at Doug Makaiwi Memorial Invite

Hoquiam and Willapa Harbor finished first and second, respectively, in the team standings of the Doug Makaiwi Memorial Invitational on Saturday at Raymond High School.

Paced by weight-class wins from Junior Soto (120 pounds), Kingston Case (138) and Oliver Bryson (190) the Grizzlies placed first overall with 179.5 points.

Willapa Harbor – a combo team consisting of wrestlers from Raymond, South Bend and Willapa Valley high schools – scored 151.5 points led by weight-class winners Conner Reyes (150), Lucas Swogger (157) and Tysonn Portmann (165).

Other local winners included North Beach’s Wyeland Lomedico (126) and Adin Wollum (215), Ocosta’s Andrew Martin (144) and Aberdeen’s Landon Hamblin (285).

Aberdeen was honored with the Don Weisel Memorial Team Sportsmanship Award.

Elma placed first atop the team standings at the Rubber Chicken Invitational on Saturday at Kalama High School.

Led by weight-class winners Xavier Espinoza (113), Rusty Johnson (150) and Eastin Wright (165), Elma scored 202.5 points to take the team trophy over Yamhill-Carlton (181 points).

Montesano third at King of the Mountain

Led by an individual title by Logan Roberts, Montesano placed third in the team competition at the King of the Mountain tournament on Saturday at Auburn Mountainview High School in Auburn.

Roberts defeated Auburn Mountainview’s Yousif Hesham via fall at 4:49 to win the 285-pound weight class as the Bulldogs placed third with 157.5 points.
