(Forks wins 4-1 on penalty kicks)
Montesano lost its second consecutive 1A Evergreen League game with a 4-3 loss – 4-1 on penalty kicks – to Forks on Wednesday in Forks.
The Bulldogs (9-3 overall, 9-3 1A Evergreen) led 2-1 at halftime after first-half goals by midfielder Cris Tobar and defender Thor Barnes, the latter coming in stoppage time at the end of the first 40 minutes of play.
Monte sophomore midfielder Peter Bruland scored off an assist from senior Nolan Swenson seven minutes into the second half.
Forks (6-6, 6-5) tied the game with a goal in the 66th minute and the game would head into overtime.
With neither team scoring a golden goal in two overtime periods, the game went to a penalty-kick shootout, where Tobar would be the lone Bulldog to convert as Monte fell 4-1 in the shootout.
The Bulldogs sit in second place in the league standings, three points ahead of Rochester.
Monte will look to get back on track against Chief Leschi at 6 p.m. on Friday in Puyallup.

Elma 4, Ilwaco 0
Elma kept itself in contention for a top-three league playoff spot with a 4-0 victory over Ilwaco on Wednesday in Ilwaco.
The Eagles (7-5, 7-5 1A Evergreen) got a hat trick from freshman Jordan Kain and another goal from standout freshman midfielder Manny Venegas to earn the victory over the Fishermen (0-10, 0-10).
Senior midfielder Theo Flores had two assists in the game while senior defender Devon Sexton and sophomore forward Luis Torres also recorded an assist for the Eagles.
“We didn’t play poorly and the game was never in doubt, but we definitely missed plenty of opportunities,” Elma head coach Carson Seaberg said. “However, overall, we are pleased to win.”
Elma sits in fourth place in the league standings with 21 points, three points behind Rochester for the league’s third-playoff seed.
The Eagles host Tenino at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
