Raymond rallied to take a late lead and hold on for a 46-45 win over Tenino at the Raymond Holiday Classic on Wednesday in Raymond.

The Seagulls (6-5) led 19-17 at the half and took an 11-point lead in the third quarter after a 10-0 run, but Tenino responded with a 21-3 run to close out the quarter and take a 38-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Raymond tied the game with 1:30 to go and took a lead with a minute left on a layup by senior guard Morgan Anderson.

Tenino (6-2) forced a turnover and scored with 13 seconds left to tie the game at 44-all.

With just 2.9 seconds left on the clock, Anderson drove to the basket and was fouled. He buried two clutch free throws to put Raymond up 46-44.

With just four team fouls to their credit, Raymond planned on fouling once Tenino inbounded the ball, but Anderson was called for an intentional foul against Tenino’s standout Noah Schow with two seconds on the clock.

Schow made 1 of 2 from the charity stripe and heaved a 40-footer on the following inbound play that was off the mark, giving Raymond a nail-biting 46-45 victory.

“It was a great bounce-back game for us after our loss to Hoquiam last night. It was a great defensive effort by the whole team,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “I’m really proud of the effort our guys gave tonight. It was probably our most complete game of the year, especially defensively. Hopefully, we can use this game as a confidence-builder as we head back into league play next week.”

Anderson finished with 22 points with Skyler Hutson and Kai Huey scoring 11 and nine points, respectively.

Raymond plays at North Beach at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Montesano 57, North Beach 13

Montesano held North Beach scoreless for nearly an entire half in a 57-13 victory on Wednesday in Ocean Shores.

Montesano (2-6) gave up a 3-pointer to North Beach junior Kobe Charley on the Hyaks’ first possession of the game and didn’t allow North Beach another point until the third quarter, opening up a 31-3 halftime lead in the process.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Cam Taylor, who scored a career best 19 points.

Tyce Peterson (12 points), Trent Adams (8 points) and Peyton Damasiewicz (8 points) also scored multiple field goals for Monte.

“Our pressure and help side defense is what really sparked our run,” Monte head coach Mack Bertram said. “Good overall win for our group.”

Monte will host Tenino at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Hoquiam 80, South Bend 15

This one was over early as Hoquiam took a 28-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back in an 80-15 blowout over South Bend at the Raymond Holiday Classic on Wednesday in Raymond.

The Grizzlies (8-1) dominated from start to finish against South Bend (1-8), sparked by star senior guard Michael Lorton Watkins’ 15 first-quarter points.

Hoquiam led 49-12 by halftime and held South Bend to just three points in the second half.

Lorton Watkins led Hoquiam with 20 points — 19 in the first half — to go along with seven assists and six steals.

Senior forward Owen McNeill added 17 points for a Grizzlies team that had nine players score in the game.

Jake Templer had 10 steals for Hoquiam, which collected 29 steals as a team off of 35 South Bend turnovers.

Hoquiam also held a 36-20 rebounding advantage — 18 on the offensive glass — and had just nine turnovers as a team, its second straight game with less than 10 turnovers.

“Kids played really hard,” Hoquiam head coach Jeff Niemi said. “Everyone contributed.”

Hoquiam will face Elma — whom Niemi guided to the district finals two seasons ago — in a key league matchup scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Elma High School.

Toledo 58, Ocosta 54

Ocosta played well enough to win, but small lapses proved costly in a 58-54 loss to Toledo on Wednesday at Toledo High School.

The Wildcats (4-5) got off to a slow start and trailed 19-4 in the first quarter before rallying behind the play of Kevin Agramon and Tarren Lewis, who scored 10 and eight points, respectively, in the first half to give Ocosta a 30-28 halftime lead.

The game stayed close until the Indians (6-5) pushed a lead to 12 points with four minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats clawed their way back to within three points in the last minute of the game, but failed to score on several possessions in the game’s waning moments.

“We had great drives, 3-point attempts and everything, but couldn’t get anything to fall,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said.

A Toledo free throw with 16 seconds left secured the Indians victory, handing Ocosta the 58-54 loss.

“Overall, I felt like we outplayed Toledo most of the game, but had a couple fo mini four-minute lapses that really turned the tide in their favor and was too much for us to overcome,” Quinby said. “We’ll continue to work on our mistakes and work to be better the next time out.”

Josh Figueroa had a double-double for Ocosta with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with seven assists.

Kevin Agramon led the Wildcats in scored with 16 points and also grabbed eight rebounds.

Tarren Lewis also scored in double figures for Ocosta with 10 points.

The Wildcats host Taholah at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
