Blood wins for second straight weekend at raceway

A huge change in the weather, as the sun was shining bright on the 3/8 banked clay oval of Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday at the Limited Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Hornets were in action.

Super Stocks

Tim Martin of Shelton and Hoquiam’s Jack Parshall set the front row of the 20-lap feature Super Stocks race. It was Martin taking the lead from Parshall after both drivers raced side-by-side into turn one.

Shane Kerrigan of Aberdeen and Belfair’s Rodger Perry battled for third until the caution flag flew for a multi-car incident in turn two. Martin led Parshall and Kerrigan to the green, with Parshall glued to the back bumper of Martin.

The caution flag flew once again for Martin, collecting multiple cars including Parshall and Perry.

Shane Kerrigan took over the top spot as Matt White of Hoquiam and Austin Kerrigan of Aberdeen ran behind him. White saw trouble under another caution, pulling his car into the pit area.

Kerrigan led his son, Austin, and Hoquiam driver Tanner Bridges to the green flag. It was Bridges moving into the second spot as Austin Kerrigan and Zack Simpson of Aberdeen battled for third. Early in the feature Austin moved into the second spot looking to track down his father Shane for the lead.

Parshall moved back into the top three after an early race incident battling with Simpson. Shane Kerrigan saw trouble midway through the feature spinning in turn four.

A race plagued with cautions saw Austin Kerrigan pick up the win over Montesano’s Scott Fritts, Bridges, Jared Stevens of Shelton and Samantha Stevens, also of Shelton, rounding out the top five.

Modifieds

Brian Izzi of Olympia led the field to the green flag in the 25-lap Modified feature, but it was Devan West of Shelton taking the lead early.

Tyson Blood of Olympia battled for second with Selah’s Blair Shoemaker. Blood took the position down the back stretch.

Blood, coming off last Saturday’s win, set his sights on West for the lead until the caution flag flew on lap 2 for Tom Sweatman of Cosmopolis.

West, Shoemaker and Blood stayed bumper-to-bumper after the restart. Contact from Shoemaker saw West spin in turn four, bringing out the caution. Blood inherited the lead as Shoemaker sat in the second spot. Zack Simpson of Aberdeen ran in third, looking for any mistake by the top two drivers.

Shoemaker and Simpson battled for second as Blood slowly pulled away, leaving a little comfort for the top spot. A three-car battle for the fourth position between Brice Carter of Selah, Yakima driver Don Martin and Scott Miller of Shelton was the race to watch as Carter continued to run fourth.

West worked his way back into the top five, getting around Martin and setting his sights on Carter in fourth. West’s night came to an end late in the feature as he brought out the caution, slowing to a stop on the front stretch.

Shoemaker and Simpson saw one last shot at Blood for the lead late in the feature event, but it was Blood going two in a row over Shoemaker, Simpson, Miller and Carter.

Hornets

The 15-lap Hornet feature saw Olympia’s Zach Dalrymple lead the field to the green flag.

Max Tucker of Belfair took over the lead in turn one bringing Don Briggs Sr. of Wishkah with him.

Just as the racing action started the red flag flew for hard contact in the turn two wall between Brooke Eklund of Puyallup and Napavine driver Justin Smith. On the restart, it was Tucker leading Briggs Sr. and Mike Smith of Napavine.

Smith saw issues, spinning in turn four but kept the car going.

Tucker worked his way quickly through lap traffic as Briggs Sr. battled with Cory Sweatman of Aberdeen. Sweatman took over the lead on lap 4 in turn three.

Tucker saw tough company as Hoquiam’s Tyler Sundstrom battled for second. Sundstrom took the position in turn three, looking to track down Sweatman for the lead.

Sweatman continued to work his way through lap traffic as Sundstrom slowly worked his way closer, but it was Sweatman picking up the win over Sundstrom, Tucker, Kaleya Onasch of Hoquiam and Mike Smith.

Limited Sprint Cars

Sean Johnson of Snohomish took the lead from the drop of the green flag. Bert Johnson of Lake Stevens ran in the second position, looking to track down Sean Johnson for the top spot.

CeeJay Adkins of Bothell ran in third until midway through the race when mechanical failure ended his night.

On the restart, Bert Johnson looked to make a move at Sean Johnson for the lead but couldn’t make the pass.

It was Sean Johnson picking up the win over Bert Johnson with Adkins rounding out the field.
