After USC upset, Washington State jumps to No. 11 in poll

PULLMAN — The Cougars vaulted five spots in the Associated Press Top 25, checking in at No. 11 in the country when the national poll was released Sunday morning.

Washington State (5-0, 2-0) upset No. 5 USC Friday night at Martin Stadium 30-27 — the program’s first victory over a top-five team in 14 years. It also marked the first victory over the Trojans in Pullman since the Cougars won in 2002 by the same score.

WSU reached No. 11 in the USA Today Amway Coaches Top 25 poll, which was released Sunday morning.

A loss to the Cougars dropped the Trojans (4-1, 2-1) nine spots, from No. 5 to No. 14 in the AP Top 25. Washington (5-0, 2-0) stayed put at No. 6 after a 42-7 win over Oregon State and Utah (4-0, 1-0) stuck at No. 20 after a bye week.

Oregon (4-1, 1-1) received 19 Top 25 votes after a 45-24 win over Cal and Stanford (3-2, 2-1) got eight votes after beating Arizona State 35-24.

In the Coaches Poll, UW moved up to No. 5, USC slipped to No. 15 and Utah jumped to No. 18.

The Cougars and the Ducks will kick off at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Eugene. The Pac-12 game will be aired by FS1.
