Aberdeen’s Sanchez, Elma’s Hernandez named all-state
Aberdeen’s Christian Sanchez and Elma’s A.J. Hernandez earned all-state honors as voted on by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association.
Sanchez, a junior, was named a 2A All-State Second Team defender as an anchor for the Bobcats’ backline that allowed just one goal in winning its final six league games of the season.
Hernandez was honored as a 1A All-State Honorable Mention at goaltender after being largely credited with guiding the Eagles to a postseason berth though they played with a young and largely inexperienced backline this past season.
They join Hoquiam’s Connor Darras, who was named as a 1A All-State Honorable Mention as a midfielder. Darras was the Grizzlies leading goal-scorer and led Hoquiam to a share of the 1A Evergreen League title.
Local golfer scores an ace
