Aberdeen’s Pratt earns district berth in tennis

Aberdeen’s Aleeta Pratt finishes fourth at subdistrict, advances to district

GIRLS TENNIS

Subdistrict 2A

OLYMPIA — Aberdeen junior Aleeta Pratt advanced to district by placing fourth in singles in the Subdistrict Class 2A Tournament on Saturday at the Steamboat Island Tennis Club.

The fourth-seeded Pratt earned her district berth with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Centralia’s Taviana Keahey on Saturday morning. She then lost to Black Hills’ Hope Johnston, 7-5, 6-3.

By placing fourth, Pratt must face the No. 5 entry from the Greater St. Helens 2A League in a district play-in (or pigtail) match Friday, also at Steamboat Island. The winner of that contest will advance to the main district draw.

Pratt was in top form in defeating Keahey.

“She played very patiently and very cleanly,” Bobcat coach Ashley Kohlmeier said. “We always give her a hard time about this, but she’s not very patient on the court normally. Today, she waited for her shots — was aggressive when she needed to be and backed off when she needed to. She played very smart tennis.”
