Aberdeen has strong second half to edge Black Hills, 3-0

TUMWATER — Aberdeen found its rhythm in the second half to score three goals and edge past Black Hills, 3-0, in an Evergreen 2A Conference match at Tumwater Stadium on Friday.

The Bobcats (2-1, 5-2) got two goals from Miguel Torres and another marker from Tony Oropeza in stoppage time to make the difference in the match.

“Both teams had some chances and we just happened to score on ours,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said. “We were able to score some real good goals in the second half. We just were able to dominate from there and picked up momentum as we went along.”

Torres scored what would be the game-winner in the 48th minute on a 20-yard shot into the upper right corner of the net off a drop ball from Christian Sanchez.

In the 60th minute, it was Torres again, this time slipping past a defender and blasting a shot into the net from around 30 yards outs.

In stoppage time, Oropeza was taken down just outside the box and buried the free kick to cap the scoring.

Fleming cited Robby Lewis for his work at sweeper and Oropeza and Cesar Corona for their performance as center midfielders.

Aberdeen won the junior varsity match 6-1 with Hulizes Chavez scoring a hat trick and Enrique Cuevas, Rigo Alavez and Eric Eng also scoring goals.

Aberdeen hosts Centralia on Tuesday.
