William J. Mattson, born in 1920 in Aalesund Norway, passed away on Oct. 4, 2017, at the age of 97. He was the family’s last of the “Greatest Generation”, having been in the CCC and served with the 11th Armored Division during World War ll.

He was preceded in death by his wife Petra (2002) and survived by many nieces and nephews.

William grew up in Aberdeen, Wash. and was a noted football and basketball player at Weatherwax High School, Class of 1939. He was a long time resident of Ballard. William was commercial fisherman before retiring. He was a true gentleman who will be missed by family and friends.
