Dr. Wendy Susan Bartanen, M.D. passed away quietly at her home in Aberdeen, Wash. on June 24, 2017.

Dr. Wendy Susan Bartanen, M.D. passed away quietly at her home in Aberdeen, Wash. on June 24, 2017. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Patricia Hole, three brothers, Michael (Kristine) Bartanen of Tacoma, Bradley of Aptos, Calif., and Charles (Anne) Hole of Seattle. She is also survived by her uncle, Charles R. McLean, four nephews (Peter, Brendan, Riley and Kyle); four step-brothers and sisters and their families, Stephanie (Dick) Baker, Diane (Ross) MacGregor, Rick (Linda) Hole, and Katherine (Mike) Knibbe, as well as numerous cousins and many friends.

Wendy Bartanen was born on Aug. 10, 1954, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Patricia and Warren Bartanen. She graduated as the valedictorian of Pasco High School. She attended the Evergreen State College and graduated, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Washington. She later graduated from the Mayo Clinic Medical School and practiced family medicine in Minnesota and Lawton, Okla. She retired to be with her parents in Aberdeen, Wash., in July 2012.

Wendy overcame diabetes to live a full and productive life as a healer, amateur genealogist and dog lover. She worked tirelessly to serve the health care needs of under-served populations and also volunteered as a doctor in Central America. She was the founder of the Hearts That Care Free Medical Clinic in Lawton. She was deeply devoted to her family, patients, church and many friends across the country. She was an Elder and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen. A reception will follow. Donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church building fund. No flowers, please.
