Wanda Jensen, age 99, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on Feb. 25, 2021, in Montesano.

Wanda Jensen, age 99, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on Feb. 25, 2021, at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Jensen was born on Feb. 18, 1922, in Raymond, Washington, to Lee Cooper and Lula Belle (North) Ray. She was raised in Raymond and graduated with honors from Raymond High School in 1940. She then attended Buetel Business School in Tacoma, Washington. She was employed by the Polson Logging Co in their office in Hoquiam.

On Aug. 11, 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, William Ward Jensen II, at the University of Washington Chapel in Seattle.

After Bill’s discharge from the U.S. Navy, they bought their first home Hoquiam where they raised their three children. Wanda devoted herself as a homemaker and loving mother. In her early years, she was active as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, den mother, Sunday school teacher at Hoquiam United Methodist Church (where she was a 70-year member) as well as being active in the YMCA for many years where she had served as treasurer for the Woman’s Circles, and a longtime member of the PEO. She was an avid walker and loved knitting.

Wanda is survived by daughters: Janice Kosnoski and her husband Edward, and Susan Hayes and her husband Arthur; a son, William W. Jensen III and his wife Denise; seven grandchildren: William L. Jensen, Edward M. Kosnoski, Christopher M. Jensen, Kristin L. Gambelin, Nicole L Thompson, Brian W. Jensen and Andrew Burton Ward Hayes and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Bonnie Niemi, Nona Leverton and Howard Ray.

A private urn committal will be beside her husband William at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary.
