Walter James Meek

“Hurrah, Hurrah, off to college I go, the University of Washington School of Medicine.” This is what Walter wanted to say. He was very proud to donate his body to the UW for medical and surgical teaching and research.

Walter was the son of Emery and Dorothy (Dagnen) Meek. Born up the Wynoochee Valley on June 1, 1933, he was one of four children. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1951 and he also attended school in Montesano and Elma.

Walter was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. He served his two years at Fort Lewis and went to Army cook’s school.

Walter was a longtime resident of Montesano. He put his military cooking skills to use as owner/operator of Walt’s Broiler in Montesano. Walter was also honored to serve terms as Grays Harbor County Auditor and Grays Harbor Counter Assessor.

Walter is survived by his sister, Maxine (John) Vetter and many beloved nieces and nephews to whom he was Uncle Walt. He was preceded in death by his brothers John Meek and Wayne Meek.
