Walter Donald Fate Sr., 89, a resident of Ocean Shores, died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020.

Walter Donald Fate Sr., 89, a resident of Ocean Shores, died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020. He was born in Highland Park, New Jersey, Aug. 4, 1931, the son of John Edward and Margaret (Thompson) Fate.

Walter served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953. He had worked as a general foreman at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, living on a farm near Port Orchard, Washington, from 1969 until moving to Libby, Montana. He loved Montana and stayed there for 17 years before coming to Ocean Shores in 2003. He had married Bernice Webber in 1953. She passed away in 2019.

He liked to fish, spending time with the family and gardening at his home. He belonged to a men’s Christian group.

Walter is survived by two daughters: Stephanie Simian and Penny Ballenger; four sons: Gary, Kevin, Brian and Darren Fate; two sisters; and 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter Fate Jr., and a brother, Carl Fate.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020 in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen. Military Honors will be given by the Aberdeen Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
