Virginia Lee Bloomfield, age 81, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on Feb. 18, 2022, at her home in Hoquiam. Mrs. Bloomfield was born in Centralia, Washington on June 19, 1940, to Clyde Henry and Sylvia M. (Klanke) Balis. She came to Grays Harbor and was a graduate of Hoquiam High School, class of 1958. She then attended Grays Harbor College.

On Feb. 13, 1970, she and Harold Bloomfield were married. The couple lived in Aberdeen for a year before settling in Hoquiam. Harold died on Dec. 22, 2014. Ms. Bloomfield had worked for the Washington State DSHS, Dahlsrom Trucking and as a loan secretary at Timberland Bank for 18 years.

She was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was active as a preschool advisor, Ladies Bible Study and the Altar Guild. She has also served as a Girl Scout leader and was past president of the PTA.

She enjoyed bunko and pinochle with friends, family dinners, reading and barbeque get-togethers. She loved her family with her whole heart and soul, especially her grandchildren. She spent countless hours of travel attending every sporting event or music concert. Her house was always the “hub” for kids to come over after school. It started when her girls were young and then spilled over for the grandkids and their friends. You could always count on grandma to whip you up a grilled cheese sandwich or have a homemade cookie in the cookie jar.

She was always up for a good road trip with her kids. She made trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Disneyland, Florida, Arizona and New York. If you asked her, she would tell you her greatest accomplishment in life is her family. She left us all with her legacy of love, and what a legacy to give!

Relatives include her three children: Laurie (Bill) Nelson, Lisa (Linda) Nicklas and Nanci (Brian) Dayton; grandchildren: Brent (Jen) Bloomfield, Zach (Kelsey) Boulden, Alex (Sierra) Boulden, Chelsie Nicklas, Stephanie Bloomfield, Dane Bloomfield, Brayden Dayton, Tanner Nicklas, Jessie Dayton, Tage Dayton and Tanner Rossmaier; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Gabe, Kira and William Morrison.’

In addition to her husband Harold, she was preceded by siblings, Marlene Balis and Richard Gladson.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. A private interment service was held at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
