Loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Mrs. Violet Peterson passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021. She lived a full life and enjoyed every blessing she was granted. She was able to pursue her passions of family, friends, food, fine things and traveling for many years.

Vi was born in Aberdeen, Washington, Aug. 30, 1930, to the late Sigurd and Hildur West.

Vi grew up in Finland and Grayland, Washington. In 1949, she graduated from Ocosta High School. Before she was married, she worked in banking in Aberdeen. She met the love of her life, at a local dance, at the Knotty Pine, where his ability to ballroom dance met her approval.

Vi was married to Walter “Botch” Peterson, in 1957, and they made their first home at the Peterson farm on the East Hoquiam. They moved to Montesano and bought their first home together in 1969. This is where they raised their five children — her life’s passion. Vi was able to stay home and tend to the children, house, and of course her loving husband, Botch.

Vi loved family gatherings and frequently would cater dinners and holidays with family and friends never forgetting to serve Scandinavian sweet breads and treats. Beyond family, she enjoyed playing bridge with friends and was a member of the former, Village Lutheran Church in Montesano.

In their retirement, she and Botch traveled extensively across the United States and traveled twice to Finland visiting relatives. They also enjoyed years of RV camping with family and friends.

Vi, is survived by her husband of 63 years, Botch Peterson, children: Paul (Claudia) Peterson, Jim (Marcy) Peterson and Gayle (John) Arbaugh, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her sisters: Jeanne (Jerry) Chancellor and Shirley Miller. She is preceded in death by her daughters Marilyn and Julie Peterson.

A graveside service was held at the Wynooche Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m followed by a reception at Country Estates Community Club House, 57 Clemons Road.
