Toni Hart Broten, age 52, lost her battle with sarcoma of the soft tissue, on June 10, 2021, at her daughter’s home in California. Her family is devasted by the loss of their beloved mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister and niece. She is cherished by all who knew her.

Toni was born on Oct. 29, 1968, to Janice (Plesha) Hart and Toby Hart in Aberdeen. After graduating from Hoquiam High School, she attended Dewitt’s Beauty School and became a hair stylist. In 1993, she married Bub Broten and together they had three children: Makenna, Brea and Blaike. They lived in Southern California for the past 30 years.

Toni was raised in Hoquiam and had fond memories of spending summers at her grandparents cabin on Summit Lake and many ski trips in the winter and skiing Mt. Batchelor in the spring with her family and family friends. She had a very close relationship with her Plato cousins Pam, Todd and Drew growing up.

Her greatest love was being a mother, and she stayed home to raise her children. In 2008, she wanted to work again as a hair stylist. She did not take any more training as a stylist but decided to challenge the California Board of Cosmetology and passed the difficult test and earned her license with flying colors.

She worked at salons in the Canyon Lake area where she lived until her illness made it impossible. She was loved by her many clients, and she loved them as well. Toni was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside and her kind and caring nature was obvious to all that was fortunate to know her.

Living with her family in Southern California, she spent many days on Canyon Lake boating and many houseboat trips to Lake Shasta. In the winter months, family time was spent at the sand dunes. Growing up she had a beloved Boston Terrier, Trudy, and for her 40th birthday she received her little Boston Terrier, Lacey, who gave her lots of love and joy.

Toni loved the Lord and leaned on him during her illness. She was raised in the Lutheran faith and was baptized as a baby and later confirmed. But after Christmas of this year, she had a desired to be baptized once again with her immediate family. This meant the world to her. Throughout her illness she had her faith and hope and prayed for a miracle that did not come. But she knew where she was going and that God had a plan.

Toni is survived by her husband Bub Broten, son Blaike Broten, daughters Kenna (Paul) Christensen and Brea Broten (Rowan Law), granddaughter Halston Reign Law, new granddaughter Tatum Lynelle Christensen to be born in September, her parents Janice and Toby, sister LeAnn, niece Brooke, nephews Trey and Brody, former brother-in-law Ron as well as beloved aunts Colleen and Patti, uncles, cousins, great-niece and great-nephews, extended family and dear friends.

A celebration of Toni’s life will be held on her birthday weekend Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Scott Lake Community Center at 2 o’clock at 2631 114th Way SW, Olympia to be shared with all the people that loved her.
