Steven Gregory Miller

Steven Gregory Miller, age 68, of Olympia, Washington passed away on March 6, 2023, at his winter home in Yuma, Arizona.

Steve was born Feb. 7, 1955 in Aberdeen, Washington to Billy Joe and Jean Miller. He attended schools in Hoquiam and Montesano, graduating from Montesano High School in 1973.

Steve married Tracy Abshire on Aug. 13, 2004 in Reno, Nevada.

Steve worked in the logging industry most of his life. He moved to Alaska for 15 years to work for several logging companies, but returned to Grays Harbor to work for Weyerhaeuser at the Bay City log yard in Aberdeen. Bay City closed in 2009, so Steve transferred to Weyerhaeuser’s Port of Olympia log yard, where he worked until his retirement in 2020.

Steve was a “Jack of all trades” … he could fix everything and build just about anything. He was always at the front of the line to step up and help his family and friends on any project. Anytime he went anywhere he knew someone or made a new friend. Steve was the all around “good guy.” Steve enjoyed camping, traveling, hunting, fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports and participate in horse shows.

Steve is survived by his wife Tracy, his children: Sarah (Brian) Layton; Beth Miller; Mary (Mark) Horoszowski; and Douglas (Hope) Abshire, sister Sheryl Latch, brothers Bill (Pearl) Miller, Jeff (Sue) Miller, John Miller and Rick Miller, his three granddaughters Grace, Kate and Jenna Layton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was looking forward to the birth of two more grandchildren due this May and July.

Steve was proceeded in death by his parents Billy Joe and Jean, and his brother James.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MSA (Multiple Systems Atrophy) Coalition at multiplesystemsatrophy.org.

A potluck celebration of Steve’s life will be held Saturday, June 24 at the Montesano Moose Lodge, from 1 to 4 p.m.
