Steven E. Haggerty, “Steve” to family and friends, passed away at his home in Hoquiam, Washington on April 27, 2023. Steve was born in Hoquiam on May 4, 1954, to parents William and Irene Haggerty.

Steve was a twin, and one of 11 children. He graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1973.

He first married Kelly Butler, with whom he had a son, Corey Haggerty. Steve and Kelly later divorced. He was then married to Marina Tompkins Whisenant. Marina passed away in 2016.

Steve initially worked for SeaFirst Bank in Tukwila, Washington. He then went to work for TAKU Fisheries in Juneau, Alaska, where he remained until his retirement in 2013, due to health issues.

Surviving family members include his son, Corey Haggerty of Lewis County; and stepchildren, John Michael Whisenant of Chino Hills, California, David Anthony Whisenant of Juneau, Alaska and Christine Whisenant of Tacoma. In addition, he is survived by sister Janice (Haggerty) Regan of Aberdeen; Hoquiam residents sister-in-law Mary (Foster) Haggerty and brother William (Bill) Haggerty, who died on May 7, 2023; sister Kay (Haggerty) Duncan of Shelton; brother and sister-in-law Richard “Dick” and Arlene Haggerty of Stevenson, Washington; sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Twinkle (Haggerty) Ellis of Edmonds, Washington; twin sister and brother-in-law Dale and Carol (Haggerty) Spears of Yakima; sister and brother-in-law Jeri (Haggerty) and Jim Baker of Marysville, Washington; and bother Larry Haggerty of Lacey, Washington. There are 16 nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Hale, sister Carnmela Haggerty and brother William “Bill” Haggerty.

He will be remembered by family and friends for his thoughtful, unexpected gifts, and wonderful memories from his Juneau, Alaska friends and previous co-workers.

No services are planned at this time, but a memorial may be arranged later.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
