Stanley G. Mickelson

Stan passed away on Jan. 11, 2017, at 98 years of age.

Stan passed away on Jan. 11, 2017, at 98 years of age. He was born in Hoquiam, Wash., Nov. 21, 1918, and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1937 where he was a popular athlete. He graduated from the University of Washington and affiliated with the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific for three years as a Navy Lieutenant. Stan spent 36 years as a salesman and sales manager. He was a past president of the Auburn Lions Club, a member of the Elks Lodge, and an Elder and very active member of the Presbyterian Church.

In 1945 he married Patricia Weatherwax of Aberdeen. They looked forward to vacationing every summer at the family cabin at Lake Quinault, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of Interior. They spent many hours liking the outdoors while fishing, hiking, sailing and swimming.

It was always a pleasure for Stan to follow the athletic achievements of his sons and grandchildren as well as looking forward to his bridge club and golfing with his many friends.

After retiring, they moved to Des Moines, Wash. where they enjoyed over 20 years with friends at Huntington Park, a private residential community, appreciating the fellowship and activities. Stan served on the board of directors for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons David S. (Denise) of Bellevue, William C. (Catherine) of Kent; grandchildren Erik, Anna, Daniel, Stephen, Paul; and ten great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., on Jan. 20, 2017.
